so when is S. of France arriving?
I thought it was autumn 2011, P. of Calais is getting to be a bit of an old bag lady, time she sat out her retirement on a Bangladesh/India beach
Hi Colin, The Spirit of France arrives in Dover on the 28th January and all being well, will enter service on the 9th February.
Really like the new ship, but have not seen all of it yet. Even when quite full there seems lots of places for people to relax, and plenty of sea veiws available. the staff have a friendly attitude which reflect that the shp maybe easier for them too.
What is missing? I could not find a layout that indicated how to get to all the facilities. A layout of ship would be good if available on the web site, the other ships are there, when you are older you need to plan ahead.
What has happend to the Pride of Dover? Surely the pride of Dover and Calais are better than the other smaller pride of ships? New Ship looks great look forward to experiencing it. But shame club class is not at the front on the ship
Hi Joe, The Pride of Dover and the Pride of Calais are fantastic ships. Unfortunately they are now the two oldest vessels in the Short Sea fleet and have consequently become more expensive to maintain and to operate than some of the other ships.
Sorry, I am French and a retired teacher of English and I am puzzled by this ‘teething’ word regularly used on the site. I understand you use it when something goes wrong at the start and is not too difficult to solve, but whatis the connection with the usual’teeth’, plural of ‘tooth’? By the way, I was delighted to sail on the maiden voyage (12.30 from Calais and back). What a great ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Jean-Marie, Sorry, it’s one of those peculiar English language sayings. Teething is the name given to the process young babies experience as their first teeth break through their gums. I guess the term ‘teething problem’ has evolved from this as it refers to a painful problem occurring very early on in the life-stage of an activity.
Loved the Spirit of Britain, but I do feel that parking some cars facing the wrong way round, so that they have to be 3 point (or even 5 point) turned is a retrograde step. Some folks will not like that at all.
Hi Eric, That parking arrangement doesn’t sound normal unless the car deck is full to capacity and we need to fill some of the ‘dead space’ on the car deck. However, I know the first few sailings have not been full to that level.
The only thing I can think of is that these vehicles may have been returning directly to Dover without leaving the ship in Calais? There were plenty of passengers doing this on the first sailings. If that is the case it becomes necessary to park you seperately so that you are not blocking the vehicles that disembark in Calais and are facing the correct way for exiting the ship in Dover.
If that was not the case, then it may have been a teething problem as our crew get use to loading their new ship.
